Borealis: Flexible Single-Use Biomanufacturing and kojoX Continuous Scaling
Introducing Borealis, a modular single-use facility for flexible small- to mid-scale GMP biomanufacturing (2–5 kL). Beyond traditional scale-up, Borealis expands options with scale-down, scale-out via multi-lane parallelization, and “scale-on”—a productivity model that links SymphonX units for cyclic or continuous processing to cut plant time, hold times, and COGs while boosting agility. Underpinning this is kojoX, a global standard that harmonizes facility blueprints, equipment, processes, and digital systems across sites. This consistency reduces validation and training burden, accelerates tech transfer, strengthens supply resilience, and enables predictable performance from development through commercialization. Learn about the different scaling models that Borealis supports and the advantages gained from utilizing a global harmonized manufacturing platform in this video interview with Azam Razzaq, Senior Director of BioProcess Strategy and Development.
